What is a Double Winding Transformer

 Double winding transformer is used in almost all electronic products. Its principle is simple. However, according to different applications (different purposes), there are different requirements of the winding process of the double winding transformer. The functions of double winding transformer are as follows: voltage conversion; impedance transformation; isolation; voltage stabilization (magnetic saturation transformer); protect the human, etc. The commonly used core shapes of double winding transformers are generally E-type and C-type cores.

 

The most basic type of transformer is two groups of coils with conductors, which are combined in the form of inductance. When an alternating current (with a known frequency) flows into one group of coils, an alternating voltage with the same frequency will be induced in the other group of coils. The induced voltage depends on the degree of the coupling of two coils and the magnetic cross chain.

 

 

Generally, the coil connected to the AC power supply is "primary coil". The voltage of this coil is called "primary voltage". The induced voltage in the secondary coil may be greater than or less than the primary voltage, which is determined by the "turn ratio" between the primary coil and the secondary coil. Therefore, the double winding transformer can be divided into two types: step-up transformer and step-down transformer.

 

Most of the double winding transformers have fixed iron core, on which there are primary and secondary coils. Based on the high conductivity of iron, most of the flux is limited in the iron core. Therefore, a high degree of magnetic coupling can be achieved between the two coils. In some double winding transformers, the coil and core are closely combined, and the ratio of primary voltage to secondary voltage is almost the same as the ratio of turns of the two coils. Therefore, the turn ratio of the double winding transformer can be used as the reference index for the step-up or step-down of the double winding transformer. Because of this, the double winding transformer has become one of the important accessories of modern power system. With the function of increasing and decreasing the transmission voltage, the long-distance transmission is more economical. Step Down Transformer Efficiency

 The transformer winding is the internal circuit of the equipment, which is directly connected with the external power grid, and it is the most important part of the transformer. The winding is often called the "heart" of a transformer. The change of winding turns can change the voltage. When the winding is combined with the core, that is the transformer itself makes up of the electromagnetic induction system, we can get the required voltage and current.

 

The transformer for depressurization can be used as a step-down transformer, but the step-down transformer of the power system can not be used as a step-up transformer, and the step-up transformer can not be used as a step-down transformer. An important parameter of the transformer is the number of turns per volt, that is how many turns should have in one volts. After the voltage is determined, the number of turns is also determined. But transformers have losses. When twining the winding, the number of coils in two turns is 5% more than the one time turns. That is, the voltage of the two times is 5% more than one time turns.

 

Such as the step-down transformer, the one time turns is a high voltage and the two time turns is a low voltage. If it is used for boosting, the low voltage is the one time and the high voltage is the two time, and the coil of high voltage should be 5% more than the low voltage. But in fact, the coil of  low voltage is 5% higher than the coil of high voltage. The number of coil of the high voltage is 10% less than the number of coils in theory and  the voltage is also 10% less than the voltage in theory. And the rated voltage is not reached.

How Often Should Transformer Oil Be Changed

Generally speaking, there is no specific time for the replacement of transformer oil, and some can be used for more than 20 years. The change of transformer oil mainly depends on the state of the oil in operation.

Procedure of Filling Oil in Transformer Tank

Oil filling of oil field transformer usually takes the following two methods;

1. Vacuum oil filling: According to the requirements of the factory manual. While keeping the oil tank with a certain degree of vacuum, slowly inject qualified transformer oil from the drain valve at the bottom of the oil tank (the vacuum degree will not be released during oil filling).

2. Conventional oil injection: Under atmospheric pressure, use an oil pump to inject qualified transformer oil into the oil tank.
